Garaway Music Department

A Message from Mr. Tripp
Hello All,

I hope your summer is off to a great start. I wanted to let you all know that I have accepted a job offer to be the middle school band director at Tusky Valley. This was a recent opening and the entire process from interview, to offer, to board confirmation took less than four days. It was a very difficult decision to leave Garaway, but one that I feel is in my best interest both personally and professionally. This new position comes with a much more focused set of responsibilities, allows me to work with and learn from a team of experienced music teachers, and will open up some time for me to pursue some personal goals including working on my master's degree and being able to spend time with my family.

To the students, I want you to know that this decision is in no way a reflection on you. I have always meant it when I say that YOU are what makes the band and choir at Garaway truly great. I'm just the guy up front waving the stick or hacking away on piano. I hope to help with the transition period as much as possible to make sure you all can continue to be successful. I'm sure no one will run the program quite the way I did, and that's ok! The best advice I can give you is make sure you give them a chance and continue to take part in band and choir. What you do is important and adds value to your education and to the Garaway community and district.

To parents, colleagues, and community members, thank you for your continued support. Whether it be serving as an officer with the music boosters, working the concession stand, baking cookies, or simply cheering on the kids at performances, your efforts are appreciated and vital to the success of the students. I ask that you continue to support the kids and the program, and work with the new director in the best interest of the students.

To address some questions I'm sure you have:

1. The NYC trip will continue as planned. All payment records and forms will be turned over to the booster leadership and eventually the new director. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime let me know and I will try to point you in the right direction.

2. It will be up to the new director whether you will continue with the planned show for the fall or not. Know that it's possible changes may come to show choir, jazz, pep band, student leadership, etc.. Be flexible and patient. I'm sure there will be an adjustment period for everyone. When in doubt make sure to ask questions.

3. I will be back in the office for a bit this week. You can reach me through my email or call the music office phone and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Please don't hesitate if you ever need a letter of recommendation or have any questions I can help with.

The last three years have been full of growth, successes, and memories I'll cherish forever. I will still be around at area honors bands, band shows, and other events. Feel free to say hello and catch up. I wish the best of luck to each of you. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I'll see you week ten of football season!
