GARAWAY NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION INTO GARAWAY NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Selection into the Garaway NHS is based on four pillars of the National Honor Society. They are defined as follows:

  • Scholarship
Per national guidelines, at a minimum, students must have a cumulative GPA of 85, B, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. (Each school chapter is allowed to require a higher cumulative GPA.)

  • Service
This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.

  • Leadership
Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

  • Character
The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.

The Scholarship requirement adopted by Garaway High School NHS is a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.7 or higher with no course failures at the high school or college level. Only juniors and seniors who meet this requirement are invited to apply for membership. If a student was eligible to apply as a junior and chose not to, that student will not be eligible to apply as a senior.

Applicants must demonstrate outstanding principles of leadership, character and service based on their volunteerism in multiple areas.  While many students who apply exhibit these qualities, the selection committee focuses on students who go above and beyond the norm.

    2. Gather all signatures (self, parent and sponsors).

  2. TWO (2) COMMUNITY MEMBER REFERENCES - Steps include:
